PJSC "Makeevka Steel Structures" produces:
- vertical cylindrical tanks for storage of petroleum, petroleum products, chemical products, molasses, water and other liquids with capacity from 100 m3 to 120,000 m3;
- horizontal double-wall and single-wall tanks with capacity from 10 m3 to 75 m3.

A tank corresponds to a hermetically closable or open artificially created vessel, filled with liquid or gaseous substance.

The first cylindrical tank was designed and constructed by V.G. Shukhov in 1878. In 1883 V.G. Shukhov designed a methodology of calculation for vertical tanks and determined the optimal ratio of the basic tank parameters and the law of mass variation. He was the first to establish the fact that the metal discharge intensity is reduced with an increase in the volume of a tank, thereby the idea of material concentration was opened.
Developing these studies, the Soviet scientists created a large number of different types of tanks, differing from the foreign ones with high efficiency:
- Minimization of evaporation losses;
- Reduction of labour-intensiveness and construction costs;
- Reduction of discharge intensity of steel per 1 m3 of volume.
Nowadays tanks are used in all industries to store, transport and account various kinds of liquid resources, refined and black oil products, as well as industrial water, drinking water, etc.

Space position determines the main type of tanks: horizontal and vertical tanks.

Horizontal tanks are generally used in case of necessity to store a small amount of fluid. Depending on the location they are divided into the following types:
• horizontal underground storage tanks;
• horizontal semi-underground storage tanks;
• horizontal land storage tanks.

Vertical tanks correlate to vessels having a bottom, walls, a roof and a variety of additional production equipment.
The volume of vertical cylindrical tanks ranges from 100 m3 to 120 000 m3 or even more. Tanks of 100, 200, 300, 400, 500, 700, 1000, 2000, 3000, 5000 m3 are manufactured with a rolling method. Tanks with capacity of more than 5000 m3 are fabricated with a single-sheet method.

Vertical tanks are divided into the following classes, depending on their location and volume:
• I class. Specially dangerous tanks. The volume is more than 10 000 m3.
• II class. Tanks of higher risk. The volume ranges from 5,000 m3 up to 10,000 m3.
• III class. Dangerous tanks. The volume ranges from 100 m3 up to 5000 m3.

The structural shape of tanks depends on their purpose and value of the internal pressure of the product.
Vertical cylindrical land storage tanks of the constant volume, simple in fabrication and installation, as well as most economical by steel consumption, are used to store oil and oil products with low steam tension. These tanks rely on a slight overpressure of the internal air-steam environment up to 2 kN/m2, therefore they are called low-pressure tanks.
In accordance with the requirements of the standards for industrial facilities, the following types of tanks made of steel are applied:
• vertical cylindrical tanks, having a fixed spherical or conical roof. The capacity of this type of tanks does not exceed 20 000 m3, provided the storage of volatile flammable liquids is required, and 50,000 m3, if the storage of combustible liquids is required;
• Cylindrical vertical tanks with a fixed roof and a floating pontoon. The capacity is not more than 50 000 m3;
• vertical cylindrical tanks having a floating roof. The capacity of this tank is up to 120,000 m3.

The main load-bearing structures of a tank are:
- wall, including insets of nozzles and manholes;
- bottom corner incisors;
- frameless roof;
- frame and support ring of the framed roof;
- wall anchoring;
- reinforcing rings.
Tanks filler structures include:
- central part of the bottom;
- fixed roof decking / floating roof / pontoon.

The service life of tanks is determined by the customer wish or by technical and economic parameters in a design which are obligatory to be agreed with the customer.

As of today 1,200 tons of steel structures for the construction of new safe confinement of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant have been shipped. All terms on the contract are met, no reclamations.

The modernization of the gas-plasma facility, released in 2011, has been carried out for the purpose of expansion of production capacity.

Shipment of tanks to Kazakhstan has been completed. The contract has been executed on time and without reclamations from the customer.
